چکیده

Sawdust as a soilless growth substrate for plants is becoming popular in greenhouse production. However, fresh sawdust often requires time decomposition before it ready use substrate. We studied whether amendments of banana peels (as source potassium), eggshells calcium), and urea nitrogen) non-composted chinaberry (Melia azedarach) could enhance its potential medium. In two pot experiments, the okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) was evaluated using mixtures M. azedarach sawdust. The treatments were: (T1) 100% soil (control) (vol/vol); (T2) (T3) 80% +20% peel (T4) 60% eggshell (T5) (vol/vol) +91 kg N ha−1 (urea). There no significant difference between regarding seed germination emergence, but leaf area, chlorophyll content index, plant biomass, number pods per plant−1, pods, dry weight were significantly lower pots with mixtures. Organic improved Adding further 91 hectare−1 insufficient to produce same yield non-fertilized sandy clay loam soil. cannot exclude that may be okra, added not enough obtain yields when grown

Assessment of genetic relatedness among okra genotypes [abelmoschus esculentus (l.) Moench] using rapd markers

DNA based RAPD (Randomly Amplification of Polymorphic DNA) markers have been used extensively to study genetic relationships in number of crop plants. In this study, 44 okra genotypes collected from different parts of India, were selected to assess genetic distinctiveness and relatedness. Total genomic DNA was extracted and subjected to RAPD analysis using 14 arbitrary 10 mer primers. The molec...

Fertilizer Requirement for Densely Planted Okra ( Abelmoschus esculentus L . )

A study was conducted at Mahailluppallama, in the Low country Dry zone (DL1b) of Sri Lanka, during Maha (2008/2009) to determine the fertilizer requirement of Okra when planted at closer spacings. Three (03) fertilizer levels (T1DOA recommendation/ plant, 2 DOA recommendation/ unit area and T31 1⁄2 times DOA recommendation/ unit area) were tested using Okra varieties Haritha and Green Tender (F...

Influence of Farmyard Manure and Weeding Regimes on Growth and Yield of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) in Zaria

Field experiments were conducted during the 2010 and 2011 cropping seasons to investigate the effect of farmyard manure and weeding regimes on the growth and yield of okra. The study was a factorial experiment laid out in split plot design, replicated three times. Farm yard manure was assigned as main plot treatments, while weeding regimes was assigned as sub plot treatments. Parameters measure...
